this concept is very key to winning duels!!!
knowing how chains work can mean the difference between winning and losing....
now that is a chain?
Chains are a way to order the resolution of multiple card effects. Each response is placed in a new "Chain Link", and the Chain then resolves in the opposite order to which it was activated in.
when a chain link starts they're named chain link 1 and the 2nd i s called chain link 2 and so on...
now chains can only work if the card chained to the response of card is the same spell speed or greater. what are spell speeds? : http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Spell_Speed [look here for info on spell speed] now example for a chain link..... player A plays "Advance Force"[spell speed 1] then player B has the right to respond, player B then chain in response with "Mystical Space Typhoon"[spell speed 2] then player A has the right to respond back with a spell speed 2 or higher, which in turn player A responds with a trap "Dark Bribe"[spell speed 3], which player B has no more responses.
which means now theres a chain link.
(Chain Link 3) Player A's "Dark Bribe" negates Player B's "Mystical Space Typhoon".
(Chain Link 2) The effect of "Mystical Space Typhoon" does not apply.
(Chain Link 1) The effect of "Advance forced" takes place,
The chain ends with the 2 (aka mst and bribe)cards being activated and going to the Graveyard.
spell speed also applies to traps the name doesn't change.
